In 1949, America was a nation on the cusp of transformation under the leadership of President Harry S. Truman. The post-war boom brought prosperity, suburban expansion, and the rise of the American Dream. Television was becoming a household staple, captivating audiences with shows like “The Lone Ranger” and “Hopalong Cassidy.” Jazz and big band music dominated the airwaves, with legends like Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman setting the stage for unforgettable nights of dancing. Drive-in theaters were the go-to weekend destination, and fashion embraced the elegance of the “New Look” by Christian Dior. It was a time of optimism and innovation, where every tune, every dance step, and every broadcast echoed a nation brimming with hope and possibilities. It is also the year that the Oklahoma League for the Blind, known today as NewView Oklahoma, was founded.

We are so excited to celebrate our 75th Anniversary with all of you and invite you to join us on March 28, 2025 as we set our sights high for the next 75 years and express our deepest gratitude to those whose hearts align with our mission.

For 75 years, NewView Oklahoma has been dedicated to serving people who are blind or have low vision. Our model for creating jobs for individuals living with vision loss came through the inception of the Wagner-O’Day Act, signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938. This act would change the landscape of America, creating job opportunities for people living with disabilities across the country. This act protects those jobs, still to this day, and we are grateful for it and all of the innovation that has come out of it.

We are also grateful for the progress that has been made at a local level to create opportunities for people with disabilities in the State of Oklahoma and are dedicating this year’s event to the Honorable George and Donna Nigh, for all their work in propelling individuals with disabilities forward.
We hope that you’ll join us.
