John Bramblitt is an internationally acclaimed artist and author who has earned much recognition, including three Presidential Service awards for his innovative art workshops. John Bramblitt is also blind.

In partnership with the Delta Gamma Alumnae Chapter of Oklahoma City, NewView is proud to host Haptic: Creating Art by Touch on Friday, May 4 from 7:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.

This event will showcase the painting techniques of John Bramblitt via artist talk and demonstration followed by a live auction of the work completed during his demonstration. Collaborative artwork between established local artists* and visually impaired Creative Visions students will be on display and available for purchase during this evening event.

General Admission - $40

VIP - First Look and Artist Meet & Greet - $150

(6:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.- includes wine, beer, light hors d'oeuvres and the chance to talk with John and the Creative Visions students. You will also have a chance to bid on John's original piece or art and purchase the collaborative pieces of art. This ticket allows you to stay for the entire evening.)

SPECIAL EVENTS FOR EMPLOYEES ON FRIDAY:

Friday, May 4- John will teach a two-hour workshop in painting for Creative Visions adult students and other visually impaired individuals in the community. 

Saturday, May 5-  ACTIVITIES OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

11:00 a.m.- John will present a lecture/demonstration at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art to demonstrate how he paints, share his personal story of how art changed his life and allow the audience to experience a display of his artwork by touch. Participants will also be allowed to experience a display of his artwork by touch. (Tickets: Free for Museum members / $5 for non-members.  Tickets are first come, first served and available at the box office beginning at 10:00 a.m. that day.)

12:30 p.m. - Book signing for Shouting in the Dark: My Journey Back to the Light.  Books will be available for purchase in the Museum store.

2:00 -4:00 p.m.- John will lead a family workshop for those who are sighted and those with vision impairment or who are blind.  The experience will begin with a tour of the exhibition A NewArt: A Milestone Collection Fifty Years Later.  Verbal description and tactile elements will be incorporated into the tour, as well as music.  Afterward, in the studio, John will lead a painting activity with all participants. Those who are sighted will wear blindfolds as they create.  (This workshop is limited to 35 people.  Pre-registration is highly recommended to ensure a spot.  Tickets are $5.
