This October, NewView Oklahoma is proud to recognize and participate in National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The theme for this year’s NDEAM is “Increasing Access and Opportunity” for people with disabilities.
Throughout the month, NVO will be highlighting its employees who are blind or visually impaired on social media. Their followers can also expect to see educational posts about issues individuals with disabilities encounter while trying to find employment and the importance of creating an inclusive work environment for all employees.
“NewView Oklahoma is proud to participate in this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month. NVO strongly values its employees who are blind or visually impaired, and we hope this month we can share with others the importance of increasing opportunities for people with disabilities,” said NewView Oklahoma CEO, Lauren Branch.
NewView Oklahoma’s purpose is to employ and empower people who are blind and visually impaired through rehabilitation, employment, and community outreach. NVO is Oklahoma’s leading employer of individuals who are blind or visually impaired, providing nearly 150 jobs throughout their organization.
Each October, NDEAM celebrates workers with disabilities and aims to educate people on the importance of creating an inclusive hiring process and work environment. “National Disability Awareness Month celebrates the ingenuity people with disabilities bring to America’s workplaces,” said Office of Disability Policy Deputy Assistant Secretary, Jennifer Sheehy.
Employers of any size, in any industry or community organization, advocacy group and schools are encouraged to participate in NDEAM. For more information about NDEAM, including ideas for how your organization can participate, visit www.dol.gov/ndeam. The website also features the 2020 NDEAM poster, highlighting the 30th anniversary of the American’s with Disabilities Act.
